Roy supports Brighton & Hove Albion Football
Club. He is also a keen sailor and sails with
the Mariners of Bewl.
Roy grew up in the village of Horsmonden in Kent.
After secondary school in Tunbridge Wells he went to
the University of Sussex
He lives near Rye, on the Sussex coast, with his wife
and two sons. They have seven sheep,seventeen
chickens, seven ducks, two rabbits, a dog and a cat.

He started his career writing jokes, songs and sketches for
comedians such as David Jason, Roy Hudd and Lenny Henry.
For over ten years he wrote for the award-winning TV drama
series
Byker Grove.
He has written for many other TV shows including
Chucklevision, Barmy Aunt Boomerang and The
Ghost Hunter.
In 2001 Roy was
presented with a
BAFTA for his
work on
children’s TV.

The award was
presented by
Toyah Willcox,
who starred in
Roy’s comedy
series Barmy
Aunt Boomerang.

In 2007 Roy was
Visiting Writer at
The National
Gallery, London.
